Summer nearly there, June, my favourite month nearly coming and I can't go home and, like me, many people! To fight against the boredom and depression caused by the Covid-19, I got together some footage of my visits to my parents home in Portugal. Those clips were recorded on several visits and during different seasons like Winter, Spring and Summer and in several locations around my parents place, places of my childhood and that I always go back when I'm in Portugal. 

The little park with the chapel is called "Parque de La-Sallette". It's a little park at the top of a hill in the city of Oliveira de Azeméis. It's a very popular spot for a walk and to practice exercise but it's highlight is in August when we celebrate the "Festas de La-Sallette" with concerts, 2 big processions and a large range of attractions perfect for family and friends to gather... of course now that is hard with the Covid!

I got footage in 2 different beaches also! One is the most popular one, "Furadouro" in Ovar, is where everybody goes and, the other one, "Praia dos Marretas, Torrão do Lameiro", is a bit more secret, it's a "desert beach" with only pine tree forest, sand and sea! That is were I got that beautiful time-lapse of the sunset!

But this video is really special because my boys are there! My two nephews, João "the skateboarder" and Eduardo "the drone assistant". They are growing, soon they won't be teenagers anymore and this video brings back to life my little adventures with the two of them!

I hope you enjoy and I hope this video makes you want to know a bit more about the Aveiro Disctrict!

Verão quase aí, Junho, meu mês favorito quase chegando e eu não posso ir para casa e, assim como eu, muita gente! Para combater o tédio e a depressão causados ​​pelo Covid-19, reuni algumas cenas das minhas visitas à casa dos meus pais em Portugal. Esses clipes foram gravados em várias visitas e durante diferentes estações do ano, como inverno, primavera e verão e em vários locais perto da casa dos meus pais, lugares da minha infância e que eu sempre volto quando estou em Portugal.

O pequeno parque com a capela chama-se "Parque de La-Sallette". É um pequeno parque no topo de uma colina na cidade de Oliveira de Azeméis. É um local muito popular para passear e praticar exercício, mas o destaque é em Agosto, quando celebramos as Festas de La-Sallette com concertos, 2 grandes procissões e uma grande variedade de atrações perfeitas para a família e amigos se reunirem .. Claro que agora é difícil com o Covid!

Também fiz filmagens em 2 praias diferentes! Um é o mais popular, "Furadouro" em Ovar, é onde todo mundo vai, a outra "Praia dos Marretas, Torrão do Lameiro" é um pouco mais secreta, é uma "praia deserta", com apenas pinhal, areia e mar! Nessa praia foi onde gravei o time-lapse do pôr do sol!

Mas este vídeo é realmente especial porque meus meninos estão lá! Meus dois sobrinhos, João "o skatista" e Eduardo "o assistente de drone". Eles estão crescendo, logo não serão mais adolescentes e este vídeo traz de volta à vida minhas pequenas aventuras com os dois!

Oh Aveiro! Forever "my" city! Studied there for four years in the college and spent some of the best days of my life in that city! It's where I stepped up from a teenager to an adult, the academic life full of traditions and now I live with nostalgia.

I know Aveiro quite well but never watched it as a tourist, so the visit of two Irsih friends was the perfect excuse to watch my city with new eyes!

It was great to walk again in the little roads around places like Praça do Peixe, Alboi, Rossio, Teatro Aveirense, Fórum Shopping Centre... Crossed bridges over the canals from Ria de Aveiro and I imagined that I was back to my college times. Ria de Aveiro, the one that makes many people to call Aveiro the Portuguese Venice but in my opinion, Venice is the Italian Aveiro! It might be smaller in dimension but our people make it bigger and a warmer place! The experience of a little cruise of 45 minutes in the canal might open your appetite for a bigger cruise where you can taste some wine and Ovos Moles (tradional sweet made from egg) or try a bigger cruise of 2h where you can visit the salines where they produce salt and now there is a spa to relax and enjoy benefits of salty water. 

So many pictures taken at Parque Infante D. Pedro, probably there they understood that I'm not the best city guide once that I constantly stopped to take pictures but that park is just too beautiful! At least they could sit down by the lake side and enjoy the peace and view of that place.

Another very important point is the food! In the last few years, the gastronomic options in Aveiro have been increasing in numbers but also in quality! There is a huge range of good restaurants to try, most of them with good fish but all of them with meat options and most with vegetarian options also. I tried few of them but there is three that you must try: Porta 35, Porta 36, and À Portuguesa, their offers is all about portuguese gastronomy, a bit expensive but worth it! Also you must try the most famous Aveiro's hamburguer in Ramona.

If you want to have a break on your site seeing, you can go to the beach. The closest one is Praia da Barra, my favourite one for swimming and where you can watch ships getting into the Aveiro port. Another one is Praia da Costa Nova where you can see the colorful striped wooden houses. For both of them you can use a bus or a taxi of course.

Aveiro is a small city and offers a free public bicycle for people to travel in the city, they are called Buga.

It was great to have a chance to show "my" city to my friends, tell them stories that I lived in every single corner of Aveiro. They promised me to come back and they will bring more people with them. I'm waiting for that!

Same boat as the one in Shot. no.12. At this moment the sailboat had already entered the inlet that accesses Ria de Aveiro. It was maybe 5 minutes after the photo taken in Shot no.12, the boat wasn't moving fast so I had time to predict this photo. The only thing I had to do was turn to my right and have a quick finger. 

I was very lucky to be there at that time of the day when a sailboat was passing by!

The gentleman in the boat wasn't very happy with me being there taking photos, in a photo with zoom it's possible to see him looking at me with an unfriendly face but worth it!

This photo is a bless! Actually this moment was captured in a moment of bliss that lasted about 10 minutes. 

So the aim of the day was to enjoy a day of the beach with 2 Irish friends. The weather was ok, sunny, slightly windy (not as a bad as the previous day when we had to fight against a sandstorm). Went to the water and it was icy! If an Irish person says that it is cold it's because it is really cold although I still managed to dive into the water!

After showed the Irish what is a delicious Bola de Berlim we went for a walk in the south pier. The north and south pier together make a safe corridor entry for the boats from the ocean to the Aveiro port. At the end of the south pier there is big articial rocks to protect the pier from the ocean. Took my camera from my back pack and decided to climb the rocks to have a clear vision of the ocean. It was evening, the sun started to set down but was still high enough which made the light just perfect. Also it was the time that some boats were returning to the port protection so all this little details gave me the chance to take beautiful shots.

In this picture we can see a sailboat and few metres behind a fishing boat probably loaded with fish because we can see the seagulls flying over.

That sailboat gave me great pictures, I could nearly do a whole blog just about that boat!

Esta foto é uma benção! Na verdade, esta foto foi capturada em um momento de felicidade que durou cerca de 10 minutos.

O objectivo do dia foi aproveitar o dia de praia com 2 amigas irlandesas. O tempo estava bom, sol, um pouco ventoso (não tão ruim quanto o dia anterior, quando tivemos que lutar contra uma tempestade de areia). Fui para a água, estava gelada! Se uma pessoa irlandesa diz que está frio, é porque está realmente frio, embora eu ainda conseguisse mergulhar na água!

Depois de lhes mostrar o que é uma deliciosa Bola de Berlim, fomos caminhar na barra mais a sul. As barras marítimas norte e sul criam um corredor seguro para os barcos desde o mar até o porto de Aveiro. No final da barra ao sul há grandes rochas artificiais para proteger o cais do oceano. Pequei na câmera e decidi subir as rochas para ter uma visão clara do oceano. Era tarde, o sol começou a pôr-se, mas ainda era alto o suficiente, o que fazia a luz perfeita. Também foi a hora em que alguns barcos estavam voltando para a protecção do porto, então todos esses pequenos detalhes me deram a chance de tirar fotos bonitas.

Nesta imagem podemos ver um veleiro e poucos metros atrás um barco de pesca provavelmente carregado de peixe porque podemos ver as gaivotas voando à volta.

Esse veleiro me deu excelentes fotos, quase poderia fazer um blog inteiro sobre esse barco!

So I think this is the best photo I've ever taken! I even participated in a photography contest but didn't win however many people said that they liked this photo (I hope it's true). 

Quick story behind this picture: 1 week before this picture was taken I had bought this new phone which has a great dual camera from Leica. The pictures are great and that was the main reason why I bought that phone. I was in Portugal for 2 weeks and I was hoping to get good weather and to go to the beach...Total frustration! Didn't happen at all! So one Sunday I went to have breakfast with my cousins and after that I decided to go for a walk on my childhood's beach because it was a sunny morning and I was hoping to get good pictures (I live in hope!). The weather was good, light was perfect, walked up and down in the beach taking pictures but didn't get anything exciting, nothing that could catch someones attention! So went home resigned but then I thought about this hidden place where I always thought would be a great place for picture but never happened either because of the weather or didn't have any camera with me. That day was different, even if at that stage some clouds started to appear, I decided I would go there for THE PICTURE. That little beach it's located in the Ria de Aveiro, a kind of laguna with 41km length, and that area is not busy at all but has very nice facilities with a picnic area and 2 decks for boats. Took few pictures, even of that boat in the picture but again, there was nothing really exciting so I just decided to sit down on the deck and appreciate the scenery before the rain started. When I looked again from a lower level of that boat, I see a completely different landscape... I think its the grass with little white flowers combined with different tones of blue and the isolated boat that gives something special to the photo. Finally, this photo made me think of the ridiculous amount of money that I gave for that phone it was worth it!

It's a beautiful pic, isn't it? There is no filters or color grading!
