So after visiting Newgrange in the morning, I went to Hill of Slane in the afternoon. It's not far from Newgrange so couldn't miss this chance to take photos for another post.

The Hill of Slane became important in 433 AD, when it is believed that St. Patrick lit the first Paschal fire in Ireland in defiance to the King of Tara, the High King Laoire. After that, St. Earc built a monastery, which was rebuilt in it's actual shape in 1512 and a Franciscan friary was founded by Sir Christopher Flemming. It was occupied until the 17th century. 

From the top of the hill you have a beutiful view from Co. Meath and on that day, from the top window in the friary's ruins, I could see the sea! There is only ruins but they are quite well preserved. In the Slane Abbey you still have the walls and the bell tower surrounded by a graveyard and in the friary you still have stairs to climb and different divisions to explore.

It is a very small monument but totally worth a visit! The view is beautiful, the place is very quiet and for those that have an interest in history, religion and culture, you can enjoy the mystic experience.

It was a beautiful and cold day and I really enjoyed the time that I spent exploring the place and shooting! Hope you enjoy my photos!

Então, depois de visitar Newgrange pela manhã, fui à Colina de Slane pela tarde. Fica perto de Newgrange por isso não podia perder essa chance de tirar fotos para outro post.

A Colina de Slane tornou-se importante em 433 dC, quando acredita-se que São Patrício acendeu a primeira fogueira Pascal na Irlanda, desafiando o rei de Tara, o Alto Rei Laoire. Depois disso, St. Earc construiu um mosteiro, que foi reconstruído na sua planta actual em 1512 e também, um convento franciscano foi fundado por Sir Christopher Flemming. Foi ocupado até o século XVII.

Do topo da colina, você tem uma óptima visão do Codado de Meath e naquele dia, da janela superior nas ruínas do convento, eu era possível ver o mar! Há apenas ruínas, mas estão bem preservadas. Na Abadia de Slane você ainda tem as paredes e a torre do sino cercada por um cemitério e no convento você ainda tem escadas para escalar e diferentes divisões para explorar.

É um monumento muito pequeno, mas vale a pena visitar! A vista é linda, o lugar é muito silencioso e para aqueles que se interessam pela história, religião e cultura, você pode desfrutar da experiência mística.

Estava um belo dia no entanto muito frio. Apesar disso gostei muito do tempo que passei a explorar o local e a fotografar! Espero que você goste das minhas fotos!

And this day started like many others, without any plan, would just let it go! After looking out the window and saw the blue sky, that changed! I have a little list of places to go to photograph and on that day, would be Newgrange!
Newgrange is a megalithic construction from the Neolitical period, on the south side of river Boyne, dating around 3200 AC which makes it more ancient than Stonehenge and the Pyramids of Giza, in Egypt. Newgrange is a tomb and is part of an archeological area that includes the tombs of Knowth and Dowth. On this guided visit, I just went to see Newgrange.

If you want to visit Newgrange, there is no point in putting "Newgrange" on your GPS and drive. The entrance is through Brú na Bóinne (Palace of Boyne in Irish) visitor centre, where you have car park and facilities with a centre for interpretation of the Neolithic monuments. Over there you will buy a ticket which will allow you to travel on a shuttle bus to Newgrange and have a guided tour that lasts around 1h and then the shuttle bus will bring you back to the visitor centre.

I was very interested in all that knowledge but the aim of my visit was to take photos. Unfortunatelly, it's not permitted to take photos inside the monument so I only have photos from outside. That 1h time frame is very tight between the guided tour and taking photos so of course I missed the shuttle bus to return to the visitor centre. I was surrounded by fields and farms, such natural beauty! I had two choices, either wait for the next bus and hope they would have space for me or to walk back. I decided to walk back and to take some photos during my 30min walking journey! It was worth it! Took some photos and when I was already on a road with houses, with not much to photograph, a shuttle bus completly empty was driving towards the visitor centre and the famous thumbu up worked! Got a lift after I took all the photos that I wanted, what else could I ask for? :D

E este dia começou como muitos outros, sem qualquer plano, apenas deixar-me levar! Depois de olhar pela janela e ver o céu azul, isso mudou! Eu tenho uma pequena lista de lugares que eu quero fotografar e naquele dia seria Newgrange!
Newgrange é uma construção megalítica do período neolítico, no lado sul do rio Boyne, contruído cerca de 3200 anos antes de Cristo, o que a torna mais antiga do que Stonehenge e as pirâmides de Gizé, no Egito. Newgrange é um túmulo e faz parte de uma área arqueológica que inclui os túmulos de Knowth e Dowth. Nesta visita guiada, só visitei Newgrange.
Se você quiser visitar Newgrange, não vale a pena colocar "Newgrange" no GPS e sair a conduzir. A entrada é através do centro de visitantes "Brú na Bóinne" (Palácio do Boyne em irlandês), onde tem estacionamento e instalações com um centro de interpretação dos monumentos neolíticos. Aí, você pode comprar um bilhete que lhe permitirá viajar num mini autocarro até Newgrange e ter uma visita guiada que dura cerca de 1h e, em seguida,  o mini autocarro leva-lo-á de volta ao centro de visitantes.

Eu estava muito interessado em toda a informação disponível, mas o objectivo da minha visita era tirar fotos. Infelizmente, não é permitido tirar fotos dentro do monumento por isso só tenho fotos da parte de fora. Essa 1h disponível é muito apertada para a visita guiada e para poder tirar fotos e é claro que eu perdi o mini autocarro de retorno. Estava cercado por campos e fazendas, uma beleza tão natural! Eu tinha duas escolhas, ou aguardava o próximo autocarro na esperança que houvesse espaço para mim ou voltava a pé. Acabei por decidir caminhar de volta e tirar algumas fotos durante a caminhada de meia hora! Valeu a pena! Tirei as fotos que queria e quando eu já estava numa estrada com casas, sem muito para fotografar, um dos autocarros completamente vazio estava a passar em direcção ao centro de visitantes. O famoso polegar para cima funcionou, apanhei boleia depois de tirar todas as fotos que eu queria, o que mais eu poderia pedir? : D
