Yes, finally I have 2 pictures from the Mavic Air to publish in a post!

These pictures were taken on the second day of Shot no.35 but at the end of the day and it was the perfect time!

Honestly, I was really hoping that I would have good pictures but that flight was just another experience to get to know my new "toy"a bit better. I'm still in a learning process and it's very difficult to focus because the drone is so much fun that when I'm flying it I totally forget that I should be exploring all it's features and I just start playing and flying around.

On this day I was quite nervous, I wanted to fly the drone but the wind was very strong and on one of the occasions I had to abort the mission. However, because I didn't want to give up I kept waiting for the wind to calm down and it was getting later and the sun was setting which was great and then I got these pictures!

Now talking about the DJI Mavic Air, if you've never flown one but want a drone that is compact but sturdy, packed with several features, great technology but extremely easy to fly, that has excellent  video image quality (camera 4k) and takes perfect pictures ( 12-megapixel CMOS sensor and an f/2.8 lens with a 35-mm equivalent focal length of 24 mm) and that you won't be afraid of crashing, the DJI Mavic Air is the perfect drone. In my opinion the Fly More Combo is the best option mainly because it comes with 3 batteries and a charging dock among many other extras.

Now, after this I really hope that DJI starts sponsoring me! I would appreciate it!

Sim, finalmente tenho 2 fotos do Mavic Air para publicar!
Estas fotos foram tiradas no segundo dia do Shot no.35 mas no fim do dia e foi o momento perfeito!
Honestamente, eu estava a espera de conseguir boas fotos, mas esse voo foi principalmente mais uma experiência para conhecer melhor o meu novo "brinquedo". Eu ainda estou num processo de aprendizagem e é muito difícil me concentrar porque o drone é tão divertido que quando estou voando eu esqueço totalmente que eu deveria estar explorando todas as suas características e eu apenas começo a desfrutar da experiência.
Neste dia eu estava um pouco receoso, queria voar o drone, mas o vento estava muito forte e em uma das ocasiões eu tive mesmo que abortar a missão. No entanto, porque eu não queria desistir, fiquei esperando o vento se acalmar e assim foi ficando cada vez mais tarde e o sol estava se pondo, o que foi óptimo porque me permitiu capturar essas fotos!
Agora falando sobre o DJI Mavic Air, se você nunca voou um, mas quer um drone que seja compacto mas robusto, repleto de funcionalidades, com tecnologia de ponta mas extremamente fácil de voar, que possui excelente qualidade de imagem (câmera 4K) e tira fotos perfeitas (Sensor CMOS de 12 megapixels e uma lente f / 2.8 com uma distância focal equivalente a 35 mm de 24 mm) e que você não tenha medo de despenhar, o DJI Mavic Air é o drone perfeito. Na minha opinião, o Fly More Combo é a melhor opção, principalmente porque vem com 3 baterias e uma doca de carregamento entre muitos outros extras.
Agora, depois disso, eu realmente espero que DJI comece a me patrocinar! Seria muito útil!

I know, I know... Some people already asked if I had retired from photography. No way! My passion is just growing day by day! What happened is that I live in Ireland so the weather is not the best (constant complaint in this blog!), so I haven't really been out to take shots. But, April brought the good weather and I went to my favourite spot, the Phoenix Park. 

The pictures in this post were taken on two consecutive days. After work related training, I went to the Phoenix Park in the afternoon and walked around the park, so these pictures were taken in diferent locations.

The first and the last one's are from the Pope's Cross. In 1979 Pope John Paul II celebrated a mass there for around 1 million people.

The second one is from Wellington Monument, dedicated to Arthur Wellesley who was born in Ireland and was the 1st Duke of Wellington. The monument commemorates his victories, and some of his battles were in Portugal so that's why on one of the faces of the obelisk, there is names of Portuguese cities and villages. The obelisk is the tallest in Europe which is 62m in height.

The three ones in the middle are from the bandstand area near the Phoenix Park Tea Rooms, just in front of Dublin Zoo. It's a lovely place to rest and relax after a walk, very calm and beautiful. You can grab a coffee or tea in the tea rooms and then just enjoy a little bit of peace in the middle of Dublin. Interesting fact: in the tea rooms you can get one of the most delicious Portuguese symbols, a "Pastel de Nata" aka "Portuguese Custard Tart". That place is just across the road from the Wellington monument and very close to the main gate to the city. It is really worth a visit!

I was very lucky because on both days the weather was just perfect so I was blessed with these pictures! Unusual for Ireland!

Eu sei, eu sei ... Algumas pessoas já me perguntaram se eu havia me aposentado da fotografia. De jeito nenhum! A minha paixão está crescendo de dia para dia! O problema é que eu moro na Irlanda, então o tempo não é o melhor (queixa constante neste blog!), daí que eu realmente não tenha saído para tirar fotos. Mas Abril trouxe o bom tempo e eu fui ao meu lugar favorito, o Phoenix Park.
As fotos deste post foram tiradas em dois dias consecutivos. No fim de 2 dias de formações relacionados com trabalho, fui ao Phoenix Park à tarde e andei pelo parque fotografando diferentes locais.
O primeiro e o último são da Cruz do Papa. Em 1979, João Paulo II celebrou uma missa nesse lugar para cerca de 1 milhão de pessoas.
O segundo é o monumento de Wellington, dedicado a Arthur Wellesley, que nasceu na Irlanda e foi o primeiro duque de Wellington. O monumento comemora as suas vitórias e algumas das suas batalhas foram travadas em Portugal e é por isso que em uma das faces do obelisco tem nomes de cidades e vilas portuguesas. O obelisco é o mais alto da Europa, com 62m de altura.
As três fotos do meio são da zona do coreto perto do Phoenix Park Tea Rooms, em frente ao Jardim Zoológico de Dublin. É um lindo lugar para descansar e relaxar depois de um passeio, muito calmo e bonito. Você pode pegar um café ou chá no "Tea Rooms" e, em seguida, desfrutar de um pouco de paz no meio de Dublin. Facto interessante: no "Tea Rooms", você pode obter um dos mais deliciosos símbolos portugueses, o "Pastel de Nata", também conhecido como "Portuguese Custard Tart". Este local fica do outro lado da estrada do monumento de Wellington e muito perto do portão principal para a cidade. Vale a pena uma visita!
Eu tive muita sorte porque nos dois dias o tempo estava perfeito, então fui abençoado com essas fotos, algo incomum para a Irlanda!

I know, it has been more than a month since the last post. I started a new job (unfortunately not a travelling photographer), did a photography course with Canon, bought new photography equipment... a few things happened! The new equipment was the reason to go to the Phoenix Park again. This time I went to try my new DJI Mavic Air. In this post there are no photos taken from the drone because I'm still learning, but they will come! 

I saw the wild deer in the Phoenix Park and flew the drone above them. I wish I knew how to take proper photos with the drone at that time but once I was there, I decided to take some pictures from ground level!
The Phoenix Park was originally formed as a royal hunting park in the 17th century. The deer were shipped over from Wales by the Duke of Ormonde in 1662 and the established herd of 400-450 fallow deer descend from the original herd introduced at that time.
Now the next time you go to the Phoenix Park you need to visit it's more ancient residents!

Eu sei, já passou mais de um mês desde a última publicação. Entretanto comecei um novo emprego (infelizmente, não fotógrafo de viagens), fiz um curso de fotografia com o Canon, comprei novo equipamento fotográfico... muita coisa aconteceu! O novo equipamento foi a razão para ir ao Phoenix Park novamente. Desta vez eu fui experimentar o meu novo DJI Mavic Air. Nesta publicação não há fotos tiradas pelo drone porque ainda estou a aprender, mas elas aparecerão!
No Phoenix Park, vi o cervo selvagem e voei o drone para cima deles. Naquele momento, dei por mim a desejar saber como tirar fotos apropriadas com drone mas, uma vez que eu estava lá, eu decidi tirar algumas fotos do nível do solo!
O Phoenix Park foi originalmente formado como um parque de caça real no século XVII. O cervo do Phoenix Park foi trazido do País de Gales pelo duque de Ormonde em 1662 e o grupo estabelecido de 400-450 cervos descende do grupo original de animais introduzido naquela época.
Agora, da próxima vez que você for ao Phoenix Park, tem visitar os seus residentes mais antigos!

For once there is no big story behind this post. I bought a new camera, swapped from an entry level mirrorless camera to a DSLR, the Canon 77D. 

One of those cold winter mornings, I decided to go out to capture the sunrise by the river Liffey shore. It didn't work at all because my 50mm lens wasn't wide enough for those surroundings and then realised that an ND filter would make my task way easier! So, after that initial frustration I went to the Phoenix Park and tried to play with the shadows and with my 50mm lens focus. I think I got a few good results but after that I went straight to a camera shop and bought a new Canon lens 10-18mm and ND filters. Now just have to wait for a new sunrise...and not such a cold morning!

Por uma vez, não há uma grande história por trás dessa publicação. Comprei uma nova câmera, troquei uma câmera "mirrorless" de nível amador para uma DSLR, a Canon 77D. 
Então, numa daquelas manhãs frias de inverno, eu decidi sair para fotografar o nascer do sol nas margens do rio Liffey. Não funcionou porque minha lente de 50mm não era ampla o suficiente para aquelas redondezas e também percebi que um filtro ND facilitaria a minha tarefa! Então, depois dessa frustração inicial, fui ao Phoenix Park e tentei brincar com as sombras e com o foco da lente de 50mm. Eu acho que consegui alguns bons resultados, mas depois disso fui directo para uma loja de câmeras e comprei uma nova lente Canon 10-18mm e filtros ND. Agora só tenho que esperar um novo nascer do sol ... e uma manhã não tão fria!

So another sunny day in the Irish autunm! Another day where I planned to do a bunch of nothing but couldn't help to grab my camera after a morning spent in the gym. I had to make a quick decision because normally the Irish sun doesn't last for the whole day. Where to go? Easy, Farmleigh in the Phoenix Park. The Phoenix Park is always my first option when I want to go to take photos but not far from home. It's so big that I still have too many places to photograph there.

After my workout I was very hungry so my first stop was at the Boathouse Restaurant by the lake side. The food is delicious and the view of the lake just makes you want to stay sitting there forever! Of course I was too relaxed and comfortable in there so totally forgot to take a photo to show. 

Farmleigh was built by the great-grandson of Arthur Guinness, Edward Cecil Guinness, in 1880's. The property was bought from the Guinness family and currently is managed by the Office of Public Works. The house has guided tours and it's grounds are used for several cultural programs through the whole year. The house is also the official Irish State Guesthouse and has welcomed guests like Queen Elizabeth II, Barack Obama, the former United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and most recently the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau.

I have visited this place several times but still haven't had a chance to do a guided tour. Normally I have something to eat in the Boathouse and then go for a walk in it's parklands like the sunken gardens, the walled garden, the fountain lawn and the clock tower. I always have to go near the clock tower, it has some kind of hypnotic effect on me. Curious fact, I have been working in the same hospital for the last 3 years and from the 3rd floor I can see a beautiful clock tower far in the landscape. I always asked people where that tower was or the name but no one knew. Last year I visited Farmleigh for the first time after 2 years working in that hospital and I accidentaly discovered that it is the clock tower in Farmleigh! Like I used to say, Dublin still surprises me!

Então, outro dia ensolarado no outono irlandês! Outro dia em que planeei fazer um monte de nada no entanto, não pude evitar pegar na minha câmera depois de uma manhã passada no ginásio. Tive que tomar uma decisão rápida porque o sol irlandês raramente dura um dia inteiro. Onde ir? Fácil, Farmleigh no Phoenix Park. O Phoenix Park é sempre a minha primeira opção quando eu quero ir tirar fotos, mas não muito longe de casa. É enorme e ainda há muito que fotografar por lá!
Depois do meu treino, a fome aperta, então a minha primeira paragem foi no restaurante Boathouse, ao lado do lago. A comida é deliciosa e a vista do lago apenas faz você querer ficar sentado lá para sempre! Claro que eu estava tão relaxado e confortável que esqueci de tirar uma foto para mostrar.
Farmleigh foi construído pelo bisneto de Arthur Guinness, Edward Cecil Guinness, em 1880. A propriedade foi comprada à família Guinness e atualmente é administrada pelo Escritório de Obras Públicas. A casa tem visitas guiadas e os seus jardins são utilizados para vários programas culturais durante todo o ano. A casa também é a Official Irish State Guesthouse (casa que recebe personalidades em visitas de estado) e recebeu convidados como a Rainha Elizabeth II, Barack Obama, o ex-secretário-geral das Nações Unidas Ban Ki Moon e, mais recentemente, o primeiro-ministro do Canadá, Justin Trudeau.
Já visitei este lugar tantas vezes e ainda não fiz uma visita guiada. Normalmente, quando visito Farmleigh, como algo no Boathouse e, em seguida, dou um passeio pelo "sunken garden" (jardim afundado), o "walled garden" (jardim limitado por muros altos), o jardim da fonte e a torre do relógio. Eu tenho sempre que ir perto da torre do relógio, parece que tem algum tipo de efeito hipnótico sobre mim. Facto curioso, trabalhei no mesmo hospital nos últimos 3 anos e, a partir do 3º andar, dá para ver uma bela torre do relógio longe na paisagem. Sempre perguntei a pessoas onde ficava essa torre ou o nome, mas ninguém sabia. No ano passado eu visitei Farmleigh pela primeira vez depois de 2 anos trabalhando naquele hospital e descobri que é a torre do relógio em Farmleigh! Como costumo dizer, Dublin ainda me surpreende!
