Shot no.49

Photos taken at Ireland's Eye Island, Co. Dublin, Ireland in July 2019 with Canon EOS 77D with Canon lens EF 75-300mm, Lumix G9 with Leica lens 12-60mm and DJI Mavic Air.

Some time ago, I heard about this Island, just about 10-15 minutes on a boat from Howth harbour. I was told it was a wild island with a little beach and some trails to walk, nothing else. For a while, I kept thinking about going to this island. I remember being at Portmarnock beach and looking at the island and asking myself how to get there. From Portmarnock, you can see the northeast side of the island where the cliffs are and imagine how tall they are. When the aeroplanes (yes, this word exists!) are approaching Dublin airport by the seaside, they cross just over the island so I never had a chance to watch it from the sky.
Last year we had nice weather in July. One morning, the island came to my mind. I searched online on how to get there and discover Ireland's Eye Ferries. There are boats leaving often (at least hourly) from the west pier and a trip around the island lasts about 40min and costs 15€/adult, 10€/teenagers and 5€/children. It's possible also to land on the island but you need to arrange the return with the captain. If you plan to stay on the island, you must remember that the island is uninhabited so there are no facilities. You need to bring your own food and you are responsible for disposing of your own waste when returning to Howth.
The island only has two structures made by men. The Martello Tower that was built in 1803 to protect Ireland from a possible invasion by Napoleon which you can get in if you climb with a rope (at your own risk) to the window at a height of 5m. The second construction is what is left of a church from the 8th century which functioned as the parish church of Howth until recent centuries.
There was also the history of a woman's murder by her husband who said that she drowned accidentally.
As you can see the history of the island is rich but its real treasure are the natural wonders. The island has beaches with calm (but cold) waters, trails around the island and to the summit where you can enjoy an astonishing view over the north coast of Co. Dublin as far as the islands of Skerries coast. The Stack is a huge free standing rock off the northeastern coast hosts a large variety of seabirds like Gannets, Guillemots, Cormorants, Kittiwakes, Puffins and Sea Gulls. There is also a colony of noisy seals!
I visited this island 3 times and every time it surprised me! On my first visit, I spent there most of the day, in the morning enjoying the beach, then I had some food and the afternoon was dedicated to explore and photograph the island. At the end of the first, I was sure that I would have to come a second time. On my second visit, I made most of the footage of the video on this post and for the video where I dance at the summit of the island. At the end of the second day, I knew I would be back a third time. On my third visit, I collected more footage and explored trails that I didn't have the chance to explore before. Now I can't wait to go a 4th, 5th, 6th... time! I just fell in love with that place, nature and the beach! Just a spot of wildness so close but at the same time so far from Dublin city.
Strongly recommend a visit...as soon as the Covid-19 allows it!

Visitei esta ilha 3 vezes e sempre me surpreendia!

Photo taken at Ireland's Eye, Dublin, Ireland in July 2019 with Lumix G9 with Leica lens 12-60mm.

On my second visit to Ireland's Eye, I went on a mission to collect footage of an old church that there is on the island. The walk to that church is made between high bushes surrounded by those beautiful purple flowers and of course, nearly every flower had a bee and eventually, they got used to my presence and allowed me to get closer and take some of my first macro photos! This is the best one!

Solo Shot 33

Photo taken at Burrow Beach, Co. Dublin in July 2019 with Canon Powershot G9x mark II

Yes! This is Ireland on another summer day! So good! The good thing about living on an island is that you are surrounded by sea... I just wish that the water was a bit warmer! Normally I go to the beaches on the south side of Dublin but since I've been shooting in Ireland's Eye, after I leave the island (normally the last boat is at 17h) I still want to go for a dip in the sea so the nearest beach with sand and parking places is Burrow beach. The last days of July have been amazing and I have been shooting a lot! On this day I decided to try my new camera Canon Powershot G9x mark II which was a gift from Capitola watches! It's just a point and shoot but the image quality surprised me! I might do a review of the camera when I have more photos, the first one came out quite nicely! Do you like it? Would you say it was taken with a point and shoot camera?

Shot no.40 (Canon EOS 77D with Sigma lens 10-20mm F3.5 EX DC)

Photos taken at several locations in Dublin, Ireland during the summer of 2018.
This post is the result of a collaboration with Capitola watches. Capitola is a Spanish brand created by two sisters. After visiting all corners of the world, they discovered Capitola. They fell in love with the simplicity of this small coastal town located in the county of Santa Cruz in the US state of California and created Capitola Watches. Capitola Watches is inspired by the beauty and minimalism of the California coast.
They contacted me through Instagram asking me if I was interested in being one of their ambassadors. First, I thought it was a joke or some sort of a scheme to take money from me. Overall, I'm far from being an influencer or famous social media personality, but, it wasn't a scheme! They were really interested in a collaboration with Watchingthroughlens!
I'm very happy with this partnership. Thanks to them I started photographing objects with the purpose of advertising them, something that I've never done before!
Their watches are very pretty, their elegance combined with their simplicity makes them very easy to like. To be used by both men and women, they fit any person with any style.
These watches are made of the best materials paying attention to all the little details, however, with an affordable price. Yes, they are very affordable but they can be even more by going to http://capitolawatches.com?ref=18 and using the code "VITOR WTL" when you check out and get an extra 15% off.
Another aspect that makes them even better is the fact that you can change the straps and in less than a minute you have a different watch!
I bought the Capitola Mesh Black and the Capitola Silver Black/Edmonton, they are the ones you can see in the photos and they are just beautiful!
I'll keep uptdating this post everytime I photograph a new Capitola watch!
What about you? Which one you will get? Don't forget to use "VITOR WTL" for a 15% off!

Photos taken in Skerries, Co. Dublin, Ireland in June 2018.
Another beautiful day in the Emerald Island! I just had to open Google Maps and choose a location of where to go and shoot. I already know most of the South coast of Dublin so this time I decided to go up North towards Skerries and I'm so proud of my choice! Beautiful is not good enough to describe Skerries.
Skerries seems to be one of the best places to live in Ireland, it came in 2nd in all of Ireland  "Best Places to Live in Ireland awards 2014". I don't live there but I can reassure you that it is a great place to visit. It has a long sandy beach (South Strand, probably the best one in Dublin!) with calm waters, great for people that don't like waves! The town has five islands off it's coast, as you can see in the photos, and you can visit them! If you rather solid ground you can go for a walk and visit the mills at the Mill Hill. To visit the mill you have to pay but I wasn't really keen to do that, I just wanted to take some shots. So I flew the drone from outside the premises and got some great shots, those 3 are my favourite ones.
I just spent an afternoon in Skerries, clearly not enough so I must go back. It has lovely restaurants along the coast with a nice view to the harbour. Now, make sure you bring money with you because if you want an ice cream, nowhere will take card and that was the only disappointing bit!
I'm looking forward to going back to Skerries, I just hope the summer days are not over!

Shot no. 23 - part II

Shot no.23 - part II (Canon EOS M10 with lens Canon EF-M 15-45mm and Canon EF 75-300mm)

Photos taken at Killiney Hill, Co. Dublin, Ireland in September 2017.
So exactly one week later, another Sunday, morning time was terrible for photography but the afternoon and evening were just golden! Drove all the way back to Killiney Hill 100% sure that it would be a day for good shots and I don't think I was wrong. The sky was blue but still with some clouds so didn't make the background so boring.
This time I managed to photograph what I had planned when I went on the first visit.
To reach this monument you need to do a little hike, very easy!
That obelisk was built in 1742 and has been restored several times after that and still knows how to look well in a photo! The pyramid was built in 1852 at the edge of Killiney Hill and it was a great spot for me to put my tripod on the top of and take several pictures of Co. Dublin, Dalkey Island and Co. Wicklow... just had to turn around! Sea and mountains so close, just undescribable!
Killiney Hill Park is a great place to spend time, you can hike, mountain climb, play sports or just chill! It includes Killiney Hill and Dalkey Hill, just a few minutes away from Dún Laoghoire.
I read somewhere that there is many famous people living in Killiney and Dalkey like U2's Bono and The Edge. Who knows if you will find Bono on a hike around the hills?

Photos taken in Portmarnock, Co. Dublin, Ireland in May 2016.
This photo could be taken anywhere else in the world no? NO! I'm in Portugal at the moment, it's July and should be hot, very hot but instead it's "fresh" and it's raining! That reminds me why Ireland is so special. Only in Ireland, a hand full of buttercups, the sea and the Lambay Island could make one photo so perfect in a rainy day!
I knew this day wasn't the best one to go out to take shots with my camera but, on that day, my camera had a mission: to record a message for my best friend's wedding. Video done and once I was in Portmarnock (even if it was cold and raining!!!), I decided to go for a walk by the sea side. Portmarnock is officially my favourite beach in Ireland just because it was the very first place where I swam in the Irish sea (2013!!!) and one of few that actually has sand and not stones and rocks! So that landscape was not new to me at all but when we keep admiring the nature at every single blink, our natural lens can take perfect shots.
I thought this would be the only good pic of the day but, just a few metres ahead, facing south I got my second gift of the day! More buttercups in the main frame but this time with Portmarnock's beach, Howth and Ireland's Eye Island in the background!
It was too cold to "taste" the Irish Sea again but I was amazed with what that rainy day offered to me!

Isso lembra-me porque a Irlanda é tão especial.
